BOOK REVIEW
Dandelion, My House Chicken, written by photographer and hobby-farm enthusiast Kim Carr, is a sheer delight to read. In this charmingly informative book, vibrantly illustrated with a painterly hybrid of Carr’s own photography and creative filters, we are invited to a behind-the-scenes glimpse of life on a farm inhabited by cows, chickens, ducks, dogs, and a rock-star house chicken named Dandelion.
Carr, having graduated college with an Animal Science degree, made her dream of owning a farm a reality when she settled onto a 20-acre property in mid-Missouri. Her passions for photography and animals have melded together to create a heartwarming, educational, and downright funny glimpse into the life of an animal lover and artist. Carr’s love of nature and the many “critters” that inhabit this world may originate from her own backyard, but the life lessons she has learned on the farm resonate with a unique perspective, as do the universal truths about pursuing one’s passions, the hard work it takes to forge them into reality, and the deep connections we can experience with the world around us—especially if you have an extraordinary house chicken named Dandelion by your side.
