Stamina. Resilience. Determination. These are but just a few of

the words used throughout this “Living Well” collection of essays written by

women who have learned to use the power of their life experiences as fuel to

rise. In their own words, these authors—attorneys, health professionals, life

coaches, business coaches, business owners, farmers, photographers, writers,

and marketing professionals—have stepped up to find their voices, tell their

stories, and share what “Living Well” means to each of them. No matter where

you are on your life’s journey, if you are looking for inspiration, motivation,

and kindred spirits, this book is for you.

Kim’s Chapter…

From the porch to the garden, into the woods

Having grown up in St. Louis county, much of my life was spent

on a bike peddling up and down the street or over the hill to play with a

friend. Tetherball, tag, and turning dog houses into club houses are as

much a part of my DNA as my mothers’ own blood. I loved my life, but it

could pose a childcare challenge for my single Mom with her long work hours.

So Mom sent my brother and me to stay the summer with our

grandparents in the country when I was ten, and with that my life course was

forever set. My entire world opened, as I now had forty acres to explore that

ran from the porch to the garden into the woods. Days consisted of working

hard around the farm, playing even harder, watching wrestling on TV with

Grandma, and fetching this and that for Grandpa.
